How keylight works
keylight is the heart of your subscription business. It offers prebuilt applications for various user groups to orchestrate subscription-related activities and serves as the user-centric backbone that unifies other tools and systems in your business ecosystem for subscriptions.
Platform composition
keylight is built with a API-first approach. This ensures that all functionality is accessible through the API, which is also used by all prebuilt keylight applications. These applications consist of Private Apps and Public Apps. Additionally, there is a dedicated application called App Builder that allows your teams to create new apps without code for specific business requirements.
Private Apps
Private Apps are the governing applications used by business admins and internal teams to get their work done. They are used to configure the platform, control and orchestrate all activities and processes, and manage Public Apps.
App Name | Description |
---|---|
Configuration | Set up products, pricing, rules, and both business and technical logic. |
Sales CPQ | Create quotes, manage orders, and handle approvals. |
Headless CPQ | Includes Sales CPQ and Account Management App functionality, embeddable in external systems such as CRMs or customer support platforms. |
Account Management | Manage customer accounts, subscriptions, contracts, and business relationships. |
Billing | Automate invoicing, collections, payment reconciliation, and transaction-related activities. |
Data | Central hub for reporting, formatting data for synchronization, exporting, and loading or executing internal and external data. |
Finance | Upload bank statements, manage revenue, journal entries, and accounting periods. |
Logs | Track system and user activity, integration events, webhooks, and data sync status. |
App Builder | Build custom Public or Private Apps using pre-built components and UI elements with no-code or low-code tools. |
Project | Upload or sync timesheets and bill based on resources or project milestones. |
Asset Management | Manage and track assets and their lifecycles, such as devices and inventory items. |
Note: Some private apps are only activated based on customer request. If you need access, please contact your account manager or submit a request through the customer support portal.
Public Apps
Public Apps are configured for external users such as end-customers, resellers, distributors, and other partners to sell, purchase and manage subscription-related activities. The look and feel, UI, and UX can be easily adjusted to meet your individual style guide.
Examples of Public Apps are:
- Shop
- Checkout
- Self-Service Portal
- Partner/Reseller/Distributor Portal
App Builder
The App Builder is used for building Public Apps with a no-code approach. Applications built with the App Builder are an extension of keylight's platform. They have direct connectivity with all platform features and subscription-related data in keylight.
Platform navigation
Public and Private Apps run on separate domains and have individual URLs. Private Apps can be accessed through a single login interface. As for Public Apps, they can be accessed through configurable domains associated with your company's own domain and feature login interfaces that reflect your corporate branding, such as partner or customer portals.
Access
keylight offers access to two platform environments: A Sandbox and a Production environment.
-
Sandbox: This is a playground for users to set up order journeys, products, pricing, billing policies, rules, channels, UI/UX, and test the configurations. Any changes made in the sandbox will not impact the production environment or affect live customers.
-
Production: The production environment is where users work with live data. It is advisable to begin implementation and testing in the sandbox environment. Once the initial configurations for go-live have been finalized, you can transfer them from the sandbox to the production environment. For assistance with the transfer, you can reach out to keylight's professional services team.
App Launcher
The App Launcher allows users to easily switch between Private Apps if they have access to multiple apps. You can find it in the top right corner of the menu bar after logging in. *If you need access to additional Private Apps, please reach out to your platform admin for assistance.
